Griddles

My griddle ignition isn’t working.

Are you hearing clicking when pressing the ignition button? If there is no spark or clicking, jump down to “I’m not hearing a click”

Are you able to match light the unit? If yes, follow the following steps:

Steps:

1. Check to see if you get a spark at the tip of the electrode attached to the burner.

2. If your griddle is digital, lift your cooktop off the unit and place it to the side, and if it’s analog (Classic griddle) raise the front.

3. If you see a spark and the burner is not lighting, adjust the electrode slightly to get a good arc with the burner to ignite the gas. This may take a few attempts.

I’m not hearing a click when pressing the ignition button.

If you do not hear clicking:

1. Check to make sure there is a battery installed in the ignition compartment

2. Is the battery installed with the “+” positive facing out?

3. Remove the ignitor button cap and make sure the bottom is pushed all the way down. You should be able to press and hear a click. If you can’t, rotate the spring (that fits over the battery) clockwise until you see the button stick out the end.

4. Make sure the ignitor is tightly secured to the control panel. Tightening up the hex nut will achieve this.

If the above are good please try a different battery, sometimes the batteries provided, although new, are no longer good.

If you have eliminated the battery as an issue and you are not hearing clicking, you will need to check the ignition wire connections behind the control panel.

Here are instructions on how to remove panel to check wiring behind control panel.

“Remove panel to check wiring behind control panel”Once you have access, check the wires for snug engagement and proper color connection (red to red etc.)

Reattach the panel.

Try button for “clicking” and “spark at burner.”

My griddle has rust or discoloration

You need to clean the rust or discoloration then re-season.

• Use normal household baking soda and water to make a paste. (¾ cup baking soda to ¼ cup warm water)

• Using a soft cloth, rub the paste on the area and let sit for about ten minutes.

• Ball up a piece of aluminum foil or use a non-metal pad (green pad) to scrub the area and remove the paste.

• Once this is done, clean the surface using a cloth with a water and dish detergent mixture.

• Once cooktop is clean and no discoloration visible, Heat the griddle up to at least 400°

(This is to help dry and evaporate any moisture)

• Let cooktop cool off to warm and then coat the surface with cooking oil. Put oil directly on surface, then using a cloth, carefully spread the oil to coat the entire surface. You want to see a shine but no excess oil.

• Your griddle is ready to use.

Be sure and follow these steps after each use!

• While your cooktop is still warm scrape all oil and particles to the grease evacuation opening.

• Turn your unit back on to about 300°, and while surface is hot, squirt water on surface and allow to “bubble” to loosen any stubborn particles

• Turn unit off and scrape again before too much cooling.

• Carefully wipe surface with a clean cloth to remove any remaining particles. The cooktop may still be hot.**Hint: Wrap cloth around spatula for this step since surface is still hot

• Now let cooktop cool off to warm and then coat the surface with cooking oil. Put oil directly on surface, then using a cloth, carefully spread the oil to a very light layer, coating the entire surface and edges. You want to see a shine but no excess oil.

• Now cover and walk away. You are ready for your next cooking!

Unfortunately, rust on outdoor cooking surfaces can be a challenge. Whether a cooker is stainless steel, cast iron, metal grill grate, or griddle cooktop it requires extra attention to keep it maintained.

The digital LED knobs will not light up

  • Check to make sure the power adapter is secured to power port on side of unit.
  • Recheck the connection of wiring harness.
  • Make sure the red wires are connected to red and black connected to black.

The temperature on my griddle is not sufficient.

Make sure the temp sensors (3 vertical posts that press against cooktop) are making proper contact with the bottom of the cooktop and none are stuck or bent.

My griddle is heating unevenly

**Unit needs to be cooled off before handling

• Check the heat sensors that press against the bottom of cooktop

• Remove the cook top and lid, preferably using two individuals

• Inspect/check the temperature sensors

• Make sure the sensors are centered and facing straight up with no tilting

• Make sure the flat surface of sensor is flat to cooktop

• Gently depress each sensor making sure they move freely up and down

• Check burner box edges for any dark discoloration

• Replace griddle top and lid, preferably using two individuals

Excess grease collects on griddle surface while cooking

The Cooktop may not be adjusted for grease drainage. Using included wrench, rotate cooktop feet to raise or lower cooktop until grease flows toward drain.

There is a sudden drop in gas flow or reduced flame height on my griddle.

There are 2 possible causes.

1. The LP cylinder is empty. If this is the case, refill LP cylinder at an authorized dealer, exchange or purchase new filled LP cylinder.

2. Overfill Protection Device (OPD) on LP tank has been activated/ tripped. If this is the case, turn control knob to OFF, wait 30 seconds, then relight griddle. If flames are still too low, reset the Overfill Protection Device. Turn control knobs OFF. Disconnect the LP cylinder from the regulator and wait at least one minute. Reconnect the LP cylinder to the regulator.

The flame in my griddle is yellow or orange.

There are 4 possible causes.

1. New burner may have residual manufacturing oils. If this is the case, light griddle and burn

on SEAR for 15 minutes.

2. Obstruction of gas flow. If this is the case, clean burner tubes.

3. There is grease or food residue on burner. You’ll need to clean burner.

4. Poor alignment or disengagement of burner to valve. If this is the problem, you’ll need to align/re-engage burner and valve.

I’m having persistent griddle grease fires.

You may have grease trapped by food buildup around burner system. Turn control knob OFF.

Allow grease fire to burn out and griddle to cool. Clean all parts of excess grease and food buildup.

I’m experiencing flare ups with my griddle.

You may have grease build up or it could be due to excess fat in the meat you’re cooking. Clean off excess grease and trim excess fat from meat before cooking.

My griddle is having flashback (fire in burner tube).

Clean your burner tube, as it may be blocked.

My griddle surface is dull.

You need to re-season your griddle. Apply a thin coat of oil to the entire surface of the griddle, making sure to spread it evenly with a paper towel. Turn griddle temp to SEAR and let the oil smoke and oxidize for about 10-15 minutes. Repeat this process multiple times until you have built up a new seasoning layer.

How do I replace the griddle control knob?

How do I replace the griddle control panel?

I’m getting an error code on my griddle. What does it mean?

ErrF : LoCo gas griddles have a safety feature which is intended to avoid having unburned fuel collect inside the cabinet if the flame is not present. This safety feature helps prevent a burp or flash flame during ignition. This same safety will also shut off the valve and prevent gas flow if the flame is extinguished by a sudden wind.

This system utilizes a flame sensing thermocouple to detect flame presence and if a flame is not detected within a prescribed amount of time the microprocessor thinks there is an error and turns off the power to the valve shutting down the fuel supply and displays the error message ERRF (meaning -flame error) on the display.

In most cases this code appears when the user doesn’t realize that there is a time limit between turning the knob and igniting the flame and in most cases the problem can be solved by having the user press and hold the igniter button while turning the control knob for each zone.

This safety may also be unintentionally engaged when a new propane tank is attached to the system. This is because of the amount of time it takes to completely purge the air from the system lines. Should you encounter the error code ERRF please turn the controller to its off position, wait 30 seconds and then retry igniting your griddle.

Err1 : There is only one cause for Err1 and that is an open circuit going to the temperature sensor. It is either not connected well, a wire possibly cut into or pushed out of the connector, or the actual temp sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. The wiring to the sensor from the controller has two individual wires. Think of the controller as your home and the sensor as your destination as the sensor and the wires being a two-lane road between. Err1 is simply telling you the road has washed out somewhere and you either can't make it to your destination or you can't make it home. Correction of this will require inspecting the plug connection and if that is not the problem then a replacement sensor can be provided by contacting us.

Err2 : This indicates that the wiring going to the temperature sensor has had its insulating cover cut or scraped and the two bare wires are in contact with each other. A likely scenario for this error is that the wire has become pinched between two metal parts during assembly. There is also a slight chance that the actual RTD (the temp sensor itself) has shorted internally. In either case, please contact us and we will take care of you!

Err3 : This indicates an issue with valve 1 (the pilot valve) of the affected cooking zone. This error code could mean either an open circuit (the connector has become unplugged or a wire cut) or that the valve did not shift when requested by the controller. The proper steps for correction are to first make sure the connectors are firmly clipped together, and if the problem persists then a replacement valve assembly will be provided. Please contact us.

Err4 : This indicates an issue with valve 2 (the main heat valve) of the affected cooking zone.

This error message could mean either an open circuit (the connector has become unplugged or a wire cut) or that the valve did not shift when requested by the controller. The proper steps for correction are to first make sure the connectors are firmly clipped together, If the problem persists then a replacement valve assembly will be provided. Please contact us.

How do I clean the grease chute?

The easiest solution is a long flexible bottle brush and hot, soapy water.

My griddle temp won’t get above 350 even though it says 450 on the dial.

The temperature sensor is most likely not in complete contact with the griddle top. Remove the griddle top make sure the temperature sensor is perpendicular to the cooktop so that the entire tip contacts the cooktop.

Fryers

My fryer is not lighting or shutting off below 400°

Things to check:

• Are you holding ignition button at least 10 seconds to allow proper ignition?

• Is the white sensor wire attached to tab on burner?

• Is battery installed?

• Is battery installed with positive end down?

If you answered YES to all questions, please follow directions on PDF for your specific fryer.

My turkey fryer lights but quickly goes out

• Check the thermo sensor that is attached to the burner. A hex nut and star washer should be securing this thermo sensor to the burner. The connection should be wrench tightened.

• Check that the wire is securely affixed to the sensor and to the control panel

• Check the wire for any damage or breaks

• Check the pressure plate at the top of control. This plate should move freely when depressed.

When pot is positioned on unit, this plate should be depressed from the weight of the pot.

Kettle Grill

The blower on my LoCo Kettle Grill will not work. Is there something I can do to get it going?

There is a switch that should be pressed when the ash can is in place. Most likely it is not being pressed fully. Try pushing the ash can towards the back with the lid closed to see if the fan runs.

You can also remove the ash can and depress the switch with your finger to check and see if the blower starts working. If this works, contact customer service and they can send you a shim kit to correct the problem. There's also a chance that the switch in the hinge for the lid could be cracked but this is not as likely.

What can I use to help keep the gasket on my Kettle Grill in place?

Ultra copper silicone made by Permatex. Apply a thin layer, stick the gasket in place, close and clamp the lid, and allow the adhesive to cure for 8 hours before use.

Pots

My pot is getting a hole and appears to be deteriorating.

Never allow the empty pot to sit on the stand when lit or allow the pot to boil dry. This will cause the pot to deteriorate.

Boilers

My boiler ignition isn’t working.

Have you replaced the battery? If you know the battery is good, here are a few things to try.

• Disconnect the regulator hose form the tank and the unit

• Looking down into the burner jets, verify that you see a pin hole opening in each brass fitting

• Using a thin wire or sewing needle, check and clear the holes

• Reconnect the hose to the unit and the tank

• Open the tank valve all the way

If you are seeing a spark at the tip of the electrode it may be the spark is not arcing and an adjustment with the electrode to the screw on burner jet may correct the issue.
